Born in Kent (UK), Stuart Gilbert studied illustration and graphic design at Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication and Kent Institute of Art and Design.

After exhibiting at L'Ecole de Beaux Arts, Beauvais, France(1993) and the Ecology Centre, Covent Garden, London(1994), he began working as a freelance illustrator for editorials and greetings cards.

In recent years his work has focused on figurative fine art and portraiture. Since 1997 he has received regular commissions and exhibited in various galleries in the southeast of England.
